It's also referred to as a galloping position and is the same position you use to jump. It definitely works different muscles and forces you to stay balanced! The name "two-point" comes from the fact that you only have two points of contact while in the position- your feet in the stirrups. Three-point is the sitting position-three points of contact, your feet and your seat.
